I am trans and have been seeing Dr Horowitz for 5 years. He's a great doctor and it's worth mentioning that he has been taking care of trans patients for many years, long before others did.

He doesn't take insurance, but you will end up paying infinitely less with him than if you go to other places where they'll have you come back and charge you money every time you want an injection. He's a serious doctor, so don't expect to skip on any medical issues. For example, he will ask you to get a blood test every year to make sure that all levels are within range.

I get my prescription for injectable estrogen from Dr Horowitz and then order it from a compounding pharmacy in the US. I get a 3 month supply of hormones (weekly injections plus daily pill regimen) for less than $100 - and I don't even use insurance.

I personally haven't had any problems with the staff either.

The staff is incredibly rude and transphobic. The fact that Dr. Horowitz is listed on every FTM list as a resource for our community is very disturbing. To be fair, Dr. Horowitz seemed very nice, treated me with respect and seemed to be a fine doctor. His staff however treated me like a circus freak. Pablo was aggressive and rude from the first phone conversation. When I came in for my appointment he was incredibly insulting...bordering on verbally abusive! Then to top it all off...AFTER I had seen the doctor, I was told that I owed them $600 dollars for the visit! They led me to believe they would submit it to my insurance, but then refused. I will NEVER go back there. If you are FTM, do not subject yourself to this kind of treatment!

I phoned his office to ask about what is needed in terms of paperwork and instead of answers I got the Spanish inquisition. Who referred you, why do you want to see him - you are not trying to do some transgender stuff? The doctor does not accept any insurance for that.
I must say after this I have had it and I hope to talk with the dr. to let him know about how horrible his staff is.

It's always hard to move to a new place and find a new doctor, especially when you have an unusual medical problem. Dr. Richard Horowitz is associated with the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and it shows in the fantastic endocrinological care he practices. Many of his patients are transgendered, and I'm always amazed at how much respect he gives them. Great receptionists, too!
