Traditional Indian Food
I love Indian food, so I tend to be a little bit picky with my Indian restaurants. I particularly do not like fast Indian food at all. I think one of the main aspects of Indian cuisine is the fact that it takes long to cook it. Period.

You can't serve a watery or buttery Tikka Masala and call it good solid Indian food.

To my taste, Royal India does an excellent job with their food. I've tried their Chicken Tikka, Roghan Josh and Chicken Makhani and they were all very good.

Their Naan bread was warm and delicious and their list of pakoras and appetizers is also really good.

Can't wait to go back!

Love the food, just a little pricey
This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in San Diego. In terms of food, it is probably the best I've had. I'm very picky about the quality of the ingredients in my food, and everything here seemed fresh and high quality. The only downside is that this place is a little expensive, but its not much more than most other Indian restaurants in the downtown and hillcrest area. The atmosphere is cool, and I was able to walk in without a reservation and get seated right away on a Friday night, which is always nice. The service was also good, although perhaps a little slow. Overall, I would definitely go back, and this is definitely the place I would take out of town guests who want good Indian food.

Wow-Nice Surprise.
We tried this place because it was close to a jazz show we were catching that night and it was a pleasant surprise! The decor is really luxurious and being right on Market Street, you feel like you're part of the city buzz. The service was really kind and efficient with nice recommendations. We started with a delicious appetizer special pakora of various batter fried veggies. Unique spices in the batter and a great spicy cilantro dipping sauce really brought it home. I had the tandoori chicken served on a sizzling platter which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My boyfriend had the lamb curry. This was the best curry I've had in San Diego. The lamb was tender and the curry was so exquisitely spiced, it was amazing. The chef really has love for what he prepares. Both meals came with fluffy, hot basmati rice and house hot sauce to make you sweat. It is kind of pricy, but awakens your whole body. The experience was a treat for all the senses and should be tried at least once in your life.
