Amazing property
I had to spend the day here for a video shoot and they could not have picked a more scenic location. It's actually hard to believe that we have such an upscale property here in casual San Diego. They even have stables and a riding ring where locals lease horses and there were tons of kids learning how to ride both English and Western, jump and more.

This isn't your loud family resort. It's kid-friendly, but quiet at the same time. The suite I was in was gorgeously decorated and the food was delicious (to be honest, I would expect it to be). The sunsets are stunning as is the night time lighting. I heard the spa is amazing too.

I think the average price of a standard room is somewhere around $400. I think it's probably worth it.

I did also appreciate that there was no charge for valet parking for the day.

Alright...this one may break getting the most bang for your buck rule, but you have to impress the lady every once in a while.

GUYS: Take your women here! I guarantee you'll get lucky that night. You can even get out of it too without loosing your shirt.

Take her to the little bar which is just to left when you enter the lobby. They have a really nice menu and believe it or not, its not that expensive.

It is a five star hotel and one of San Diego's finest. The location feels like you've stepped back into Italy and you can enjoy the hotel without having to drop the $500+ to stay the night there.
Pros: Service, Food, Drinks, Really Rich people always make for good people watching, Location
Cons: Valet Parking...you can get out of it though if you park around the corner.

The Grand Del Mar
Hands down my favorite hotel in San Diego and perhaps one of the most relaxing and aesthetically pleasing resorts ive seen in California. It blows me away that such a great hotel has been open for a year yet seems to have such low occupancy compared to other hotels of similar caliber such as the Montage or the St. Regis. My guess is that this is largely due to the Grand's location in sparsely populated Northern San Diego County, because the hotel loses no points when it comes to luxury and service. Food at the Amaya cafe is great, particularly breakfast. Only down side of the hotel is that the beautiful pool is pretty much void of any young or attractive people to mingle with as you might find at a comparable hotel in LA, so it's definitely a bring-your-own-hottie type of scene.
